Natashia and Anna Fulcher Gagnon are Métis sisters born and raised on Treaty 6 territory in Saskatoon, SK. In 2021, with the help of Clarence Campeau Development Fund and Gabriel Dumont Institute, they opened up Pretty Young Thing Studios, a safe space hair, tattoo and esthetics studio. Having been in the industry for almost 20 years, and a very large LGBTQ++ clientele, they saw the need for a genderless salon with a focus of being a safe space to become your true self- inside and out. Soon after opening, Anna and Tash opened up their PYT Trans Care Fund – a fund to help people transitioning access PYT’s services at a reduced cost. PYT Studios also has bi-annual clothing drives, as Saskatoon is seeing a large number of unhoused people. Come, take what you need, no strings attached. Anna and Tash have a mixed background of Irish, British, Scottish and Saulteaux ancestry, with their Métis side from the Red River Settlement in Manitoba. Since opening the salon, Anna and Tash have been on a journey of discovering more about their Métis roots to continue the culture that was once lost in their family. Their Métis ancestry is an important piece of their identities and connection to where they are today. Anna and Tash are both mothers of two little ones, who are also active members of MN-S. Some notable Métis family names along with Gagnon in their roots are: Poitras, Morand, Delorme, Lamirande and the honourable Cuthbert Grant; a founder of Métis Nation who lead the Métis to victory at the Battle of Seven Oaks. Anna and Tash are so grateful for the support and love they have found through the Métis community in Saskatoon. They look forward to continuing to contribute to the betterment of their community going forward, and making more connections with other Métis entrepreneurs.
