GatherNorth combines validated public sources into searchable business and organization profiles, financing tools, statistics, and quality checks.
One business, one profile
Each business has one main profile. Additional sources, locations, categories, and services can add useful details, but they never inflate the total business count.
Identity and listing sources
GatherNorth never infers Indigenous identity or ownership. It preserves only distinctions that a source states explicitly and presents them in plain language on business profiles.
Profile labels distinguish three situations: an external source reports verification, qualification, registration, or Nation-owned status; a business appears in a directory or registry that is not treated as certification; or a membership or self-declared listing is available while ownership verification remains unconfirmed.
These labels explain what supports a listing. They are not a GatherNorth certification, guarantee, endorsement, or procurement decision. Buyers should confirm current requirements with the business and the relevant contracting or registry authority. Read the buyer listing guide.
Adding useful details without making assumptions
When supported by the data, profiles can publish business descriptions, products and services, contact channels, social profiles, service reach, procurement details, and structured metadata. Social links are limited to recognized profile or channel URLs; generic homepages, sharing links, individual posts, and common website-builder accounts are suppressed.
A supplied Google Business URL is labelled accordingly. When one is unavailable, a profile may offer a clearly identified Google Maps search based on the business name and public location. That link is a discovery shortcut, not a verified Google Business listing.
Relevant context, not claimed relationships
Business and organization profiles can suggest contextual connections using published fields such as city or community, province or territory, sector, organization mandate, stated Indigenous distinction, and specific Nation or community references. Every suggestion explains why it appeared.
A suggestion does not establish affiliation, membership, funding, clients, eligibility, endorsement, or service delivery. GatherNorth does not create a connection when the available fields cannot support one, and users should confirm any real relationship directly.

What the statistics mean
Statistics describe the businesses currently represented in GatherNorth. They measure this directory’s coverage and should not be interpreted as a census of every Indigenous business in Canada.
