Makoon Transition Inc.

About this business

Makoon Transition Inc. is an Indigenous led organization based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, dedicated to supporting parents and families involved with the child welfare system. Makoon provides safe and supported community housing where parents and children can remain together while receiving the support they need to heal, reconnect, and move forward as a family. Makoon has proudly supported 205 families in their journeys of healing and reunification and has helped reunite 382 children with their parents. Each number represents a story of resilience, love, and hope. Makoon offers transitional housing for parents and children, along with family reunification support to help parents navigate Child and Family Services. The organization also provides treatment and wellness programming, including addiction support, counselling, and life skills programs, as well as early childhood programming to support children’s development. Cultural supports are a key part of Makoon’s work. Families are offered opportunities to connect with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and traditional teachings. Makoon’s programs are family centred and grounded in Indigenous culture, focusing on healing, strengthening relationships, and preparing families for transition into independent living.
