About
Katie Durand is a mixed media artist and creator. Born and raised in Manitoba in the RM of Tache, the longitudinal centre of Canada. Her heritage is very much still being discovered. She is French, Mètis and Swiss, only obtaining her Mètis card in 2023. A love for creating and tools brought her to try wood burning, beginning in 2015, when she merged her love for being a pyro with art. Her creative mind never stops, from custom ornaments to signs in local restaurants in Lorette, MB. She also enjoys painting on skulls provided by a local dairy farmer to give a new life. Skulls aren’t for everyone. Her favorite wood species to burn on is birch. Bought from a local MB Harvester, she then cuts up her custom and then set aside to dry. “The art of patience is the best gift of all .”
