Janet La France is a Red River Métis citizen who grew up and lives in Winnipeg, MB. She is Métis on her mother’s side, with links to St-Norbert, St-Malo and St-Francois-Xavier. Her Métis family names are Bonneau, Charette, Gosselin and Sansregret. She is French-Canadian and French on her father’s side from Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes. Janet is bilingual and tries to honour both her Métis and French-Canadian heritage through her work. Janet has professional training in traditional animation and has developed an artistic style influenced by this, as well as by book illustration and 20th-century poster art. She has illustrated more than seven children’s books, several textbooks, posters, private commissions, and other projects. Her drawings are primarily created using a combination of pencil, watercolor, and ink. Janet is passionate about history, nature, and heritage, which inspire many of her illustrations. Janet seeks to create sweet and nostalgic illustrations set in, and born from, the heart of Red River.
